Birgit Sippel
Birgit Sippel (born in Bochum (Germany) on 29 January 1960) is a German politician and has been Member of the European Parliament since 2009, representing the constituency of Südwestfalen in the south of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.〔http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/96932/BIRGIT_SIPPEL_home.html〕 She is member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), which belongs to the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and to the Party of European Socialists (PES) at European level.〔http://www.europarl.europa.eu/meps/en/96932/BIRGIT_SIPPEL_home.html〕

In the LIBE committee, Birgit Sippel has been involved in diverse topics, touching upon questions of privacy and data protection (e.g. Terrorist Finance Tracking Program, Passenger Name Record data (PNR)) but also upon issues like the EU asylum policy, migration and the Schengen area. Moreover, she has been involved in the advancement of police and judicial cooperation at EU level (Area of Freedom, Security and Justice), e.g. by supporting the adoption of several directives on procedural safeguards.
